About the Conference

The Scottish Rural and Islands Housing Conference covers a range of topical issues concerning rural housing and communities in Scotland. As ever, the conference aims to update and inform delegates of the changes and initiatives that are taking place and to provide an opportunity for frank and open debate.

This years conference will be looking at the value of rural and islands housing associations to the local economy and their communities. As always, workshops will provide a more practical and in-depth look at issues including Housings Place in Economic Strategy, Rural Fuel Poverty and the Shape of Services for Older People.

The pre-conference RIHAF meeting will take place on Wednesday 25 October, along with the Study Tour and Conference hosted by East Lothian Housing Association

RIHAF Development of the Year

This year will see the introduction of The RIHAF Development of the Year Award. The award is an opportunity for rural housing associations across Scotland to enter their best developments.

To enter bring along a one sided A3 poster - that includes an image of your entry plus text describing it. All entries will be displayed throughout the conference and delegates will choose a winner to be announced on Friday morning. Alternatively you can enter in advance by emailing you entry to Karen Devin, SFHA Events Producer on kdevin@sfha.co.uk

Entry Criteria - the development must have been completed onsite between March 2016 and March 2017. It has to be located in a rural location (Scottish Government classification of ‘rural’). It can be any development from single house to large development, but must contain a significant proportion of affordable rented housing. Please highlight any issues such as design features, community involvement, sustainability, and in particular why your project should win!
