Scottish textiles background information.
Scotland has over 570 textile related companies, most of whom have up to 10 employees. The sector is predicted to grow in value from £950million this year to £1.5 billion by 2020. Whilst this economic growth is welcome, Scotland needs to ensure that carbon, water and energy targets identified in Scotland’s Zero Waste Plan and Safeguarding Scotland’s Resources are not impeded. Therefore designers and businesses need to be aware of and skilled in low carbon, resource efficient product design, understanding their supply chain, sustainable production and where possible ‘closing the loop’.
