About this event

This blended learning, virtual two-day course (running 9.30am-4pm on Wednesday, 24th and Thursday, 25th February) is suitable for members of the workforce who have particular responsibilities with undertaking enquires under Section 47 of the Children Act 1989, including professionals from Health, Education, Police, and Children’s Social care; those who work with complex cases and social work staff responsible for co-ordinating assessments of children.

***Please note that applicants for this course must have completed Level 3 training and be working confidently at this level to be suitable for Level 4 training***

The course will take place using the software platform Zoom, hosted by SAFE (Safeguarding Associates for Excellence) and appropriate measures have been put in place to make this safe.

Delegates will be supplied with joining instructions and a link to join the course. Zoom is accessible on PCs, tablets and smartphones.

Delegates will receive email conversation from the trainer and must complete the two parts of the course: -

• Part 1 – Complex Multi-Agency Safeguarding for Children workbook prior to attending the Zoom course.

• Part 2 – Zoom face-to-face webinar on Tuesday and Wednesday, 24th and 25th February 2021

Learning Outcomes:

• Be confident in using professional judgements to make decisions as to whether a child is suffering, or is likely to suffer significant harm.

• To be able to lead/oversee safeguarding enquiries.

• Understand the information required for Professional Multi-Agency Meetings including MARAC, MAPPA and Channel Panel meetings.

• Understand Serious and Complex Safeguarding Children Investigations.

• To be able to implement and audit the effectiveness of Safeguarding/Child Protection Services on an organisational level against current national guidelines and quality standards.

• Have an advanced understanding of key legislation and guidance concerning safeguarding children.

Cancellations and Charges:

The IOWSCP provides fully-funded training to its partner agencies.

If an individual cannot attend the course we ask that they cancel their ticket via Eventbrite. To do this log into Eventbrite (you will have created an account to obtain a ticket), click on Your Tickets, then the appropriate ticket, and then Cancel Order. Alternatively the ticket can be transferred to an alternative candidate. The alternative candidate must complete the entire course, it is not possible for the course parts to be completed by different delegates under the same ticket. Please note for this course the workbook (which will be sent to attendees in advance of the course) must also be completed in order to achieve the Level 3 training.

Non attendance: If an individual fails to cancel their ticket or notify us they will be unable to attend, agencies will be charged a non-attendance fee of £120 (per whole training day).

No charge will be made if a suitable delegate is sent instead.

SAFE will have details of those who have booked tickets and record all attendees and mark those not in attendance for this virtual course.

The Isle of Wight Safeguarding Children Partnership (IOWSCP) is established in accordance with the Children and Social Work Act 2017 (the Act) and Working Together to Safeguard Children 2018 statutory guidance. The IOWSCP provides the safeguarding arrangements under which the safeguarding partners and relevant agencies work together to coordinate their safeguarding services, identify and respond to the needs of children in Isle of Wight, commission and publish local child safeguarding practice reviews and provide scrutiny to ensure the effectiveness of the arrangements.

Working Together 2018 explains that the three safeguarding partners in relation to a local authority area are defined under the Children Act 2004 (as amended by the Children and Social Work Act 2017) as:

  • the Local Authority
  • a Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) for an area any part of which falls within the local authority area
  • the Chief Officer of Police for an area any part of which falls within the local authority area
