Screen Printed Quilted Coasters / Mini Wall Hanging

Join textile designer Millie Rothera and create your own screen printed, quilted coasters or mini wall hanging!

You will explore colour, pattern and quilting, and learn how to turn your fabric into a set of coasters or mini wall hanging. All skills that you can continue developing at home.

In this introductory workshop Millie will use her eleven years of printing and textile experience to guide you through each step to creating your own designed, printed and stitched coasters or mini wall hanging. To start the workshop you will design your own pattern motifs, choose the colour for printing, mix your colour using pigments and print your design onto fabric using a paper stencil, silk screen and squeegees. We will then heat set your design once it has dried and stitch your fabric into a set of coasters or mini wall hanging.

You don’t need any screen printing experience but basic knowledge of hand stitching would be beneficial.

Participants will be shown demonstrations as well as have guided one-to-one help and advice on how to achieve the best results.

The workshop will involve:

· Introduction to the basic tools needed to screen print and quilt

· Designing motifs through drawing

· Cutting the motifs from paper

· Choosing a colour to print with the help of colour cards

· Learning how to mix your chosen colour

· Screen printing onto fabric

· Hand stitch and quilt your coasters or mini wall hanging

Skill Level: Suitable for all skill levels.

Cost: £40 per person (includes materials and equipment use).

The Craft House was established in 2016 in Saltaire by April Chamberlain, who continues to manage the business. Having started in Saltaire, The Craft House is now run from new, larger, premises at 109-111 Main Street, Bingley. We have a lovely ground floor cafe and welcoming workshop spaces on the first floor (reached by stairs with two handrails). We offer a vibrant programme of art, craft and textile workshops and courses for adults, enabling you to develop existing skills as well as try new activities. Working closely with a team of talented artist/maker tutors, we provide expertly-run classes in a friendly and supportive atmosphere. We cater for a range of skill levels, from first-time participants to people with existing skills (including other professional artists and makers looking to develop their techniques). Our emphasis is on encouraging creativity and enjoyment whilst passing on key skills. We also cater for private parties and events - please telephone us or call into the cafe to discuss. Please note that all our events are subject to us achieving minimum booking requirements, as we need to ensure they are commercially viable for our tutors - if we have to cancel an event, we will refund your ticket and give you as much notice as possible.
