Screen Printing For Textiles - 2 Day Workshop
Sat 13 May 2017, 11:00 – 16:00 BST
2 DAY WORKSHOP
SATURDAY 13th and SATURDAY 20th MAY 2017
11am - 4pm
This two day course will provide the opportunity to explore the exciting process of screen printing onto textiles. You will experiment with screen printing techniques using hand cut paper stencils and learn how to coat and expose a screen using photo sensitive emulsion. With the guidance of our experienced tutor you will be encouraged to develop a range of surface pattern designs focussing on layering colour, shape and pattern.
What experience do I need?
This is a mixed ability course for beginners and those with some previous experience of screen printing. Those with more experience may use the course to further their ideas and gain advice from a tutor, but experience isn’t necessary.
What will l make?
You will make a range of surface pattern textile samples which may be suitable for use as cushions, cotton bags, accessories, patchwork or printed textile pieces as art for the home.
If you wish to print onto plain products, such as tote bags or tea towels, feel free to bring them along with you.
Who is my tutor?
She studied MA Textile Design at Chelsea College of Art in 2010 and completed a PGCE teaching qualification at the University of Huddersfield in 2014. Kirstie works as an Associate Lecturer for Short Courses at Leeds College of Art, primarily teaching in adult education. She is passionate about bringing together a new creative community in Leeds through the running and development of Leeds Print Workshop.
Do I need to bring anything?
Equipment and materials such as screens, squeegees, photo emulsion, a range of ink colours, newsprint paper, cutting mats and knives are all provided. Small fabric samples will be provided to get you started but you will need to bring further fabric for printing along with you. Natural fabrics such as a plain cotton or linen would be best to print on. On the first day of the course your tutor can offer you further advice on fabrics and where to buy them.
If I can't attend can I get a refund?
We will refund you in full if you cancel no less than 14 days before the start of the first session of the course.
What if the course is cancelled?
We reserve the right to cancel the course for any reason (for example, insufficient bookings or adverse weather conditions). We will endeavour to give at least 7 days notice if the course is cancelled and in the event of cancellation we will, of course, issue you a full refund.
Please note: we regret that, for safety reasons, only those over the age of 16 will be permitted to undertake the course.
