Screen Printing For Textiles - 3 Day Course
Mon 14 August 2017, 11:00 – 16:00 BST
3 DAY COURSE
MONDAY 14th, TUESDAY 15th and WEDNESDAY 16th AUGUST 2017
11am - 4pm
Explore screen printing for textiles on this 3 day course. You will learn how to screen print using blank screens and paper stencils as well as how to coat and expose screens using the photo emulsion method. You will explore the use of textile pigment inks and how to mix colours for screen printing.
You will be encouraged to develop a range of different surface pattern designs using overlaying techniques with a focus on colour, shape and pattern. Over the 3 days there will be plenty of time to learn the techniques and then experiment with the process to create a range of exciting outcomes.
Who is my tutor?
She studied MA Textile Design at Chelsea College of Art in 2010 and completed a PGCE teaching qualification at the University of Huddersfield in 2014. Kirstie works as an Associate Lecturer for Short Courses at Leeds College of Art, primarily teaching in adult education. She is passionate about bringing together a new creative community in Leeds through the running and development of Leeds Print Workshop.
What experience do I need?
This is a mixed ability course for beginners and those with more experience. Those with previous experience of screen printing may use the course to develop ideas and gain advice from a tutor, although experience is not necessary.
What will I make?
You will make a range of screen printed fabric samples using a combination of different screen printing techniques.
You can also print on to plain products such as tea towels or cotton bags if you wish, so feel free to bring these along with you.
Do I need to bring anything?
Equipment and materials such as screens, squeegees, photo emulsion, a range of ink colours, newsprint paper, cutting mats and knives are all provided. Small fabric samples will be provided to get you started but you will need to bring further fabric for printing along with you. Natural fabrics such as a plain cotton or linen would be best to print on. On the first day of the course your tutor can offer you further advice on fabrics and where to buy them.
If I can't attend can I get a refund?
We will refund you in full if you cancel no less than 14 days before the start of the first session of the course.
What if the course is cancelled?
We reserve the right to cancel the course for any reason (for example, insufficient bookings or adverse weather conditions). We will endeavour to give at least 7 days notice if the course is cancelled and in the event of cancellation we will, of course, issue you a full refund.
Please note, we regret that, for safety reasons, only those over the age of 16 will be permitted to undertake the course.
