Event description

Description

Really excited to announce that on the 3rd of July we will be focusing on the work of surrealist legend and one of our all time fave film producers - David Lynch!

We are even more excited to announce that our guest speaker for the evening, who will be helping us delve into all things Lynch is the incredible MARY WILD.

Mary Wild is the creator of the PROJECTIONS lecture series (psychoanalysis for film interpretation) at Freud Museum London. She teaches film in the Humanities Department at City Lit, and has produced public events at ICA, BFI, NYU, and Shoreditch House. Her interests include cinematic representations of the unconscious, surrealism, dystopia, neoliberal economics, mental illness, and love.

To explore the work of Lynch we have chosen to screen Lynch's 1997 film LOST HIGHWAY.

Lost Highway is a beguiling film puzzle, one of David Lynch's finest works. A man doubts the loyalty, and the very nature, of his wife; his paranoid fantasies drive him to violent urges. Mary Wild will introduce this screening with psychoanalytical reflections on the cinematic uncanny, feminine jouissance, and identity formation - ideas that facilitate a deeper engagement for enthusiasts of the neo-noir genre.

We look forward to seeing you and welcoming Mary to Manchester in July.
