“Breathless” is not just a good movie but an exceptionally important one; Jean Luc Godard’s directorial debut, assisted by Francois Truffaut and Claude Chabrol is a startling, pacey and an original example of the French “Nouvel Vague” which retains its freshness sixty-three years after it was screened. It has been described by some critics as exhibiting a pure, chaotic newness.
The girl in the film Jean Seberg, the gun to all intents and purposes, Jean Paul Belmondo both oozing an unenforced coolness and showing what it can mean to be young and in love. The anti-hero Michel (Belmondo) is a swaggering, misogynistic petty criminal who steals a car in the South of France and kills a policeman on the road to Paris. There, he meets up with Patricia (Seberg) an American and an old girlfriend. While in Paris they talk aimlessly about Literature, watch movies and make love. Michel also tries to get money owed to him from other criminals whilst all the time the police close in and seek to bring him to justice.
Film starts at 7pm. No adverts and no trailers.
