About this event

Join us for a screening of Dareen Tatour's film, 'Al-Damun: The War of Memory’ moderated by Neil Young, co-founder of Drunk Muse Press. The event will include an in-person reading by Palestinian poet, Mohammed Moussa.

Dareen Tatour is a renowned poet, photographer, and filmmaker from Palestine, whose work profoundly chronicles her own experiences and those of the Palestinian people. Tatour came to international prominence in 2015 when she was arrested in her home by Israeli security forces and accused of inciting terrorism for writing a poem entitled ‘Resist, my people, resist them.

Poet, journalist and translator Mohammed Moussa was one of three writers shortlisted for the 2022 international Freedom of Expression Awards by the Index on Censorship. Born and raised in a refugee camp in Gaza, he studied English at college and in 2018 created the Gaza Poets Society (gazapoets.org) as a forum for young Palestinians to share their writing in English and Arabic. His own volumes of poems include Flamingo, and Salted Wounds (first published by Drunk Muse Press, July 2023). He continues to lead the work of the Society as writers within the Gaza Strip share what might often be their last words amidst the ongoing genocide*.
