Screening of 'Coccolith', followed by talk with the filmmakers
Event Information
Description
We’d like to announce the screening of Coccolith, a short fiction film shot in the subterranean world of the Ramsgate Tunnels, Kent. Departing from typical storytelling conventions, the film depicts an imaginary realm in which devised performances evoke the unique histories and feel of this eerie environment, seeking to challenge simplistic associations of the tunnels with wartime nostalgia and mythology.
Coccolith (17 minutes) was directed and produced by Christopher Brown (University of Sussex) in collaboration with composer Andrew Knight-Hill (University of Greenwich). The film is part of a broader practice-as-research project investigating how audio-visual practices might represent the experiences of ruined spaces. More information about the film is available at www.coccolithfilm.co.uk
The screening will take place on Monday 26th November, in Screen 5 of the Greenwich Picturehouse in London (directions to venue below). All are welcome and the event is free to attend, but we ask that you please confirm your attendance via Eventbrite.
There will be two screenings of the film during the evening. The first will be followed by a talk in which Chris and Andrew contextualize the project, discussing the development of the film, the challenge of shooting in the tunnels, and our approaches to directing and sound design.
18.00: Screening of the film followed by an introduction to the project by Christopher Brown & Andrew Knight-Hill
19.30: Second screening (film only)
