Event description
Stourbridge Labour Party present a special screening of 'Selma'. Selma is the story of a march. Not simply across a bridge but for equality

About this Event

'Selma' is one of the finest films ever made about the civil rights movement.

The plot follows activists planning the Selma to Montgomery protest marches in 196-along the 54-mile highway from Selma, Alabama to the state capital of Montgomery. The marches were organized by nonviolent activists to demonstrate the desire of African American citizens to exercise their constitutional right to vote, in defiance of segregationist repression; they were part of a broader voting rights movement underway in Selma and throughout the American South.

Praise for Selma,

"Selma” carries viewers along on a tide of breathtaking events so assuredly that they never drown in the details or the despair, but instead are left buoyed" Ann Hornaday, Wasington Post .

It's Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. vs. a hard-nosed sheriff who stands amid a plantation full of prejudices in Alabama."
