In a profound act of historical resurrection, modern day adventurer, Elise Wortley straps on her 19th century hobnail boots and bonnet to celebrate history’s forgotten female adventurers, whose absence from history continues to have knock-on effects today.

Armed only with the gear available to Henriette D’Angeville in 1838, Elise attempts to recreate the first female ascent of Mont Blanc - Europe’s most iconic peak. In doing so, she explores her own relationship with the outdoors and how it’s impacted a long battle with debilitating anxiety.

Lise Wortley is an adventure historian, writer and community founder, on a mission to open up the adventure and outdoors space. Lise's acclaimed project, Woman with Altitude, is dedicated to changing narratives and empowering people through the stories of pioneering women adventurers. Lise aims to show that adventure is not just about conquering or winning, but about connecting to people and the natural world. Throughout her twenties, Lise suffered from severe anxiety, and eventually began to find comfort in the outdoors, and inspiration in the stories and achievements of overlooked adventurous women. For nearly a decade, Lise’s research has brought these women's stories to life, by literally walking in their footsteps using only what was available to them at the time. Lise's project has received widespread media attention, and her writing has featured in outlets such as The Guardian, The Financial Times and The Telegraph. Lise also recently starred in Channel 4's ALONE, surviving for 34 days in the Canadian wilderness, earning runner-up in this ultimate survival test in one of the most beautiful but challenging landscapes on earth.
