Event description

Description

Alfred Hitchcock said that three things are needed to make a good film: script, script – and script!

Yet before script there must be a story. This series of one day workshops offers a roadmap for you if you want to develop your ability to tell screen stories that are visual, visceral and emotionally compelling. You’ll be taught the ‘nuts and bolts’ of telling stories on film while also being given free rein to be imaginative, original and bold.

These workshops are ideal for you if you have completed our Movie Writer: Creating and Crafting the Idea course, as we will build on the ideas introduced, however previous attendance is not mandatory. We will revisit basic storytelling elements such a narrative arc, the relationship between story and character, and the shaping of story beats. The key principles of scriptwriting will be explored, including how to structure a narrative, how to beat a scene and how to maximise the drama of your story. Our ultimate aim is to guide and support you in transforming your initial movie idea (in any genre) into a professional 10 page treatment that is ready to be pitched, plus a second draft of the first 10 pages of your feature film script.
