Description

Scripts Aloud - Full length

THE NATURALISTS is set in rural Ireland. It centres around the co-dependent relationship of two brothers, Francis and Billy Sloane. After their mother disappears, and Francis is imprisoned for the notorious Narrow Water bombing on the Irish border, the brothers’ lives and family business are shattered. Then Josie Larmer enters their lives; a young woman who is not quite all she seems. She brings with her a dark shadow from the brothers’ past - and also the possibility of redemption.

Jaki McCarrick's first play, The Mushroom Pickers, won the 2005 SCDA National Playwriting Competition, and premiered at London’s Southwark Playhouse in May 2006 to numerous four-star reviews. Her next play, Leopoldville, was selected by David Hare as a finalist in the 2010 Yale Drama Series Playwriting Competition and won the 2010 Papatango New Writing Prize. Jaki’s play, Belfast Girls, was shortlisted for the 2012 Susan Smith Blackburn Prize and the 2014 BBC Tony Doyle Award.

This is a 60 minute script in hand performance followed by audience feedback.
