Two Worlds of Financial Regulation: Domestic Politics and International Constraints
Financial regulation is technical and often difficult to understand, but it has moved to centre stage in domestic politics in many countries around the world. Professor Pepper Culpepper and Dr Emily Jones will give two perspectives on these changes – one on the domestic politics of finance that has roiled the advanced capitalist countries in the wake of the financial crisis, and one on the intersection between international financial markets and domestic pressures in developing countries as they have adopted international banking standards.
This event will help you to:
- understand more about the politics of financial regulation;
- recognise how media coverage and popular opinion influence the making of financial policy; and
- appreciate the links internationally between financial markets and domestic pressures.
Gwyneth Nurse, Director Financial Services Group and Head of Policy Profession, HMT will the host for this event.
