About this event

Seafish’s 15-day Introduction to Commercial Fishing (ICF) course is designed for individuals interested in starting a career in the fishing industry.

The course gives new entrants a basic knowledge and awareness of different activities that are commonplace aboard commercial fishing vessels. It also includes the four one-day mandatory courses Sea Survival, Firefighting, First Aid and Health and Safety which are a legal requirement for any new fishermen entering the industry.


£2000.00 fully funded placements available through Seafish.

Eligibility

To be eligible for funded training you must:

  • hold a current ENG1 medical certificate
  • be aged 16 or above
  • attend an online selection interview
  • commit to attend all 15 days of the course
  • inform Seafish when you have successfully secured a position on a UK registered vessel

applicants must be able to pass Seafarer Medical Fitness assessment ENG1 prior to start date.

  • Funding is linked to attendance with missed days not eligible for funding support, students should be aware they may personally be charged for absent time.
  • Before undertaking the training, you must complete a funding application form

– if your application is approved, you can proceed with booking onto the course; your approval will be valid until the date of your selected course.
