Searching for a UK Geological Disposal Facility

Professor Cherry Tweed will give an evening seminar for the South West Nuclear Hub on the topic of nuclear waste management and the ongoing search for a UK geological disposal facility.

The talk will give an overview of the technology behind geological disposal, describe the journey with communities to find a site and highlight some of the experience we can learn from other countries involved in similar projects.

Speaker

Professor Cherry Tweed is the Chief Scientific Advisor to Radioactive Waste Management and an Honorary Professor at the University of Birmingham.

She has an MA in Natural Sciences and a PhD in Materials Science from Cambridge University and over 25 years’ experience in geological disposal.

Radioactive Waste Management Ltd. aims to deliver a geological disposal facility and provide radioactive waste management solutions.

South West Nuclear Hub Seminar Series

The aim of the series is to highlight the scientific and engineering challenges which face nuclear energy and the multidisciplinary research which goes on to meet them. These evening seminars bring together the nuclear community from academia, industry and the general public providing an invaluable networking opportunity as well as an interesting talk!
