Event description
Make your dives count! Get involved in the UKs biggest and best marine conservation project!

About this event

Calling all snorkellers and Freedivers... record the marine life you see and give a new purpose to your diving.

Seasearch is a national project which trains divers, freedivers and snorkelers to record the wildlife they see on their dives. It gives additional purpose to your diving and is great fun as well as providing vital information for our conservation work.

This course is aimed at giving divers new to the project an introduction to the Seasearch programme. It is suitable for those who are already good at marine species Id and for those who are total beginners. At the end of the course you will be able to complete the Seasearch Observation Form to a level suitable to make the information you record really count, and take part in Seasearch snorkels either on your own, with your club or on snorkels organised by Seasearch partners.

Cost - £75 per person ( Includes 20% Vat) and includes a copy of the Seasearch Guide to marine life (rrp £19.95)

Due to covid restrictions we have ditched the classroom section of this course instead providing 3 evenings of training via zoom. Sessions will be approx 1.5 hours long with a break. Evening training sessions will be held via zoom at 6pm on Wednesday June 2nd , on Thursday June 3rd and on Friday June 4th .

Once you have done all the theory we will be meeting on the coast (location mid Cornwall site is weather dependent) on Saturday 5th of June for a snorkel survey and a chance for you to do your first Seasearch forms

The course will be taught by Marine Biologists and Seasearch tutors Matt Slater, Caz Waddell, and Trudy Russell.

There is an element of marine species ID training but due to time constraints its more of an introduction- you learn this sort of thing gradually which is why we recommend the purchase of the Seasearch Divers guide to marine life of Britain and Ireland - included (optional) in the cost of participation.

Seasearch is always great fun, a great way to meet like minded people, a great way to improve your knowledge and many of our divers become addicted to seasearching! Once qualified you are able to join dives all around the UK and the experience really helps if you are looking at developing a career in marine conservation or underwater photography.

Please note that for all Seasearch snorkelling with Cornwall Wildlife Trust you must meet the following requirements:

You must;

•Be an experienced snorkeller or free diver with recent UK snorkelling or free diving experience, comfortable in the water and competent at surface diving.

•Have all your own equipment - Including adequate dry or wetsuit, mask snorkel and weights, hood and fins

•Be fit on the day and fully able to participate.

The course is perfect for those who are already running or taking part in snorkelling with your local marine group. And holders of BSAC snorkel instructor qualifications are most welcome

We reserve the right to refuse participation if you don't meet these requirements. We can easily arrange a refund for you.
