Event description

Description

Join us for a unique walking event at Scarborough Seafest Marine Festival to launch Seaside Walk Week and help raise funds for the Family Holiday Association charity. Explore the history of this North Yorkshire town and get free access to SEA LIFE sanctuary for your whole family.

Starting from West Pier the walk will head down South Bay past Scarborough Spa; prepare to meet all sorts of creatures that live along the foreshore from crabs, to fish to seaweed. Keep your eyes peeled for 165 million year old dinosaur footprints in Scarborough's jurassic rocks and bring your wellies for the chance to do some 'seashore exploring'. This will all be guided by our friends at Hidden Horizons.

The walk will proceed at a gentle pace and is ideal for families of all ages. It will finish back at Scarborough Spa where the Scarborough Seafest Maritime Festival celebrations will be in full swing.

Once you've fully immersed yourself in all things Seafest, head over to Scarborough SEA LIFE Sanctuary where you can explore all of the sea creatures that live on this underwater world in a free and exclusive out-of-hours visit from 5-6.30pm.

All equipment is supplied but for the seashore exploring you will need wellies or old shoes, bare feet are not a good idea as the rocks are sharp and slippery.

TIMINGS: 13:30 for a 14:00 start. The walk and seashore explore will last approx 2 hours. SEALIFE Sanctuary access from 17.00-18.30pm.

Seaside Walk Week, organised by the Family Holiday Association, is a week of events celebrating the wonders of the British seaside, paying tribute to the magic of family holidays by the sea and encouraging the nation to explore the Great British coastline with family and friends.

As Britain’s first seaside resort, the North Yorkshire town of Scarborough is the natural choice for the launch of Seaside Walk Week 2018.

Our thanks to Hidden Horizons, Scarborough Borough Council, Scarborough Seafest Maritime Festival, Scarborough Hospitality Association, Scarborough SEA LIFE Sanctuary, and Welcome to Yorkshire without which the walks would not be possible.
