Seasons for Growth: Children & Young People's Prog. - 26 & 27 Feb 2022
About this event
We are thrilled to be running this Seasons for Growth training course through our Youth Scotland membership network for the first time. It hopes to introduce our brilliant network of youth workers to this innovative grief and loss programme so that in the future they can facilitate its delivery in their local communities.
It’s never too early to learn about the grieving process. Everyone will experience a form of loss or a major change at some stage in life - and everyone will respond differently. It is important that young people are equipped to navigate changes in circumstance. This may feel particularly relevant as we head towards year three of the pandemic.
What is the Seasons for Growth programme?
The programme itself uses the metaphor of the seasons to explore the cycles of grief. Looking at how change and loss can impact everyday life, it will introduce young people aged 6-18 to valuable new tools for if they are going through a period of change and/or loss.
This course is for any young person living with the effects of change and loss. Situational factors might include:
- The coming and going of friends
- Loss of someone or something you love
- Parents and families separating
- Moving to a new place
- Impact of illness
- Family work-life changes
The programme takes place in small groups, facilitated by trained “Companions,” accredited by Seasons for Change. They will guide discussions and lead activities, creating a safe space for young people to learn, reflect and share in order to normalise and understand different experiences of change and loss. In doing this, the programme hopes to strengthen the social and emotional wellbeing of children and young people.
