About this event

Early Years Music Scotland is delivering a year-long programme of free, high-quality, creative and inspiring continuous professional learning and development for musicians working with children in the early years across Scotland, supported by Creative Scotland's Youth Music Initiative.

This workshop is free-of-charge to musicians who are resident in Scotland and working with children in the early years (0-5yrs). Non-Scottish residents and non-musicians may purchase a ticket.

This workshop will be recorded and available to view for one month following the event. If you are unable to attend live, you can select a 'session recording' ticket. The recording will be sent to all ticket holders within 48 hours of the event. Please book one ticket only.

This workshop will look at supporting young people with additional support needs through music and exploring the seasons and world around us. We will look at structuring a session, creating a safe space, accommodating sensory overload/stimulation, prioritizing play through music, and how we can use the topic of the seasons to allow the project to develop whilst still creating a sense of familiarity for a long period of time.

This workshop will be delivered by Megan Black. Megan's experience includes both delivering training and working in early years music. She works with several charities including Generation Arts, Granton Youth, Boarwood Mental Health, Jack Drum Arts, The Eric Liddell Centre and Perth Theatre. Megan works with a range of vulnerable people within the community including adults with complex mental illness, dementia patients and carers, young children and teenagers from deprived areas, young people in care, and children and teenagers with additional support needs.

Additionally, Megan is a project co-ordinator for multiple projects - one of which is 'arts in mind' which focuses on bringing music into community spaces to support vulnerable and isolated adults with mental illness. Part of this role involves training facilitators, supporting in the planning and administration of the projects, and evaluating the project outcomes. You can find out more about Megan @meganblackmusic on all platforms.
