A great opportunity to find out all that you ever want to know about seaweed!
This walk & talk is led by seaweed expert Ian Tittley, from the Natural History Museum, Kent Field Club & Herne Bay Seaside Museum.
Thanet Coast’s chalk reef provides the perfect substrate for different algae communities within the designated North East Kent Marine Protected Area. Join this walk through rock pools and on the chalk reef to discover seaweed, their uses and properties on this outdoor talk.
These walks are suitable for people of 14 years and above, and last for about 2 hours walking over the ROUGH terrain on the beach and rocky shore. You will need to tread carefully. Please wear footwear suitable for the sand and rocky beach and rock pools - such as Wellington boots; and wear clothing to suit the coastal weather condition on the day (raincoat/windproof - for rain/wind; layers to keep warm, if it is cold; or suntan lotion/hat/cover up to avoid sunburn, if sunny!). Please also be aware & abide by the Thanet Coastal Codes, Thanet's Public Space Protection Order & codes and public health advice.

If not walking or cycling, then getting there by other transport:
Cars: Parking is available along Palm Bay Avenue, Cliftonville - with a 10 minute walk; or in Percy Avenue or Botany Bay Avenue in Kingsgate . (please note to avoid private roads in Kingsgate Avenue/Fitzroy/part of Marine Drive - where parking fines are given)
Bus routes: The Loop bus route will require a 25 minute walk from Northdown Park.
Rail: Margate Railway Station - or Broadstairs - is about a 1hr5min minute walk
