Second Screen: Integrating Media and Mobile Apps

Martin Spicer, Programme Manager CEMAS

The role of television in the modern, digital home is changing, and content distributors are having to think 'out of the tv box' in order to reengage with their audience. The potential for a new 'golden age' of broadcasting is very much upon us.

The second and third screen is an emerging concept in the delivery of content to people through TV and mobile. Television programmes recognise that the attention of their viewer may be distracted through mobile and tablet devices in the living room.

This talks sets out the second and third screen, the possibilities for mobile development and how broadcasters are taking advantage of mobile and tablet usage to capture their audiences attention and promote their content and brand through these mediums

Martin Spicer is the Programme Manager for CEMAS. He has a passion for the way in which content is created, distributed and consumed. Martin has previously worked for the Walt Disney Corporation and other content creators across the private and public sectors

Centre of Excellence in Mobile and Emerging Technologies

CEMET is based at the University of South Wales, within the Faculty of Computing, Engineering and Science.

We believe that innovation is a vital part of business growth. As a result, we support Welsh businesses that are seeking to create new products, solutions and services, through bespoke funded collaborative research projects.

CEMET envisage a Wales where businesses continuously innovate, utilising emerging technologies to provide market leading products and services that shape the future. It's our aim to contribute to an environment where the knowledge and capacity to innovate are key business drivers.

The programme is part funded by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) through the Welsh Government. ERDF funding aims to strengthen economic and social cohesion in the European Union.
