Second Sight Project is the definitive work on Adi Newton, icon of industrial-rooted electronic and experimental music, chronicling the prophetic vision driving his artistic journey – from 1977’s post-industrial Sheffield to his latest productions.

Second Sight crystallizes the extraordinary artistic coherence of Adi Newton, founder of legendary industrial pioneers Clock DVA and groundbreaking projects like The Anti Group and The Future. This global work unites Italian critic Paolo Bertoni’s book Adi Newton: Second Sight with Clock DVA’s Second Sight CD.

Bertoni’s book meticulously interweaves Newton’s biography, cultural context, and progressive discography: from the seminal 1977 electronic project The Future (featuring future Human League members) to recent works Psychophysicist, Spectral Unit, and EXT Volume 1.

The Clock DVA album – curated by Newton and Maurizio TeZ Martinucci – reconstructs the group’s 2010s sonic archive, documenting their creative rebirth after a 30-year hiatus culminating in Noesis (2023).

Second Sight celebrates Newton’s nearly 50 years of nonconformist sonic research and prescient vision: heir to avant-garde movements, guardian of radical thought’s esoteric roots, and pioneer of sci-fi/technology convergence within underground media culture.

BIOGRAPHY : ADI NEWTON

Adi Newton stands as one of the cult figures of the original experimental electronic-industrial scene that emerged in late-1970s England. In 1978, he founded Clock DVA in Sheffield. During the 1980s, Newton developed two distinct projects—Clock DVA and The Anti Group—which, alongside Throbbing Gristle, Cabaret Voltaire, and Test Department, defined the polymedia approach for the Industrial music scene. By the 1990s, Newton sharpened the electronic, experimental, and cyberpunk dimensions of his work. In the 2010s, he revived Clock DVA with renewed vigour, expanding globally through his creative labs, Armcomm and Anterior Research.

Why Second Sight Is an Essential Release

CREDIBILITY EMPHASIS

The book’s author, Paolo Bertoni, is a renowned Italian music critic with over 30 years of experience in the field. Specializing in esoteric, industrial, and experimental music, he is an editor at Blow Up magazine – Italy’s premier music monthly – where the book originally debuted in 2022.

TRANSLATION PROCESS CLARITY

The text was translated by a bilingual editorial team Letizia Rustichelli, Professor of Italian Language and Literature at Chongqing University (China), preserved the nuances of the original Italian;

The translation was then personally reviewed by Adi Newton (Clock DVA) to oversee factual accuracy regarding song lyrics, discography releases, personal biographical details, and Sheffield’s industrial music scene.
