Bringing Together Professionals to Develop Maths Teaching
The Venn Essex Maths Hub is proud to announce its upcoming secondary maths conference at The University of Essex, a new event aimed at uniting educators and professionals dedicated to advancing the teaching and learning of mathematics. This conference serves as a platform for fostering collaboration, sharing innovative practices, and exploring the latest research in mathematics education.
We aim to bring together a diverse group of professionals, including teachers, curriculum leaders and maths MAT Leads, to engage in meaningful dialogue and exchange ideas on enhancing the quality of maths teaching in secondary schools around Essex and beyond. Participants will have the opportunity to delve into contemporary pedagogical strategies, discuss challenges and opportunities, and develop actionable plans to refine their teaching methodologies.

The core purpose of the Maths Hubs Programme, coordinated by the NCETM (National Centre for Excellence in the Teaching of Mathematics), is to help schools and colleges lead improvement in mathematics education in England. They seek to harness all the maths leadership and expertise within an area, to develop and spread excellent practice, for the benefit of all pupils and students. They are part of the wider development of school-led system leadership in England.

  • We bring together mathematics education professionals in a collaborative national network of 40 Hubs each locally led by an outstanding school or college, to develop and spread excellent practice, for the benefit of all pupils and students.
  • We work with teachers from Early Years to Post 16. Part of this is work linked to lesson design, principles of teacher for mastery and teacher research groups.
  • We offer bespoke school support to enable schools to move the maths curriculum forwards.
  • We work collaboratively with teachers to support them with their specialist knowledge for teaching mathematics.

The Venn Essex Maths Hub is led by St Thomas More’s Catholic Primary School, an outstanding primary school in the heart of Colchester. With a dedicated team of operational partners who help carry out the Hub’s work, we work very closely with our Strategic Partners, who help plan and evaluate the Hub’s work. We work with successful, established mathematics communities across the Essex region as well as national partners and mathematics associations.

Our Maths Hub covers the Essex area including Southend and Thurrock.
