A study day will provide an art-historical background for the Secret Art of Survival exhibition at the Victoria Gallery and Museum.

About this Event

A University of Liverpool Continuing Education Study Day in partnership with Victoria Gallery & Museum and Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine.

This event is FREE, however booking essential as only limited number of places available.

Through lectures, group discussion and gallery workshops, this study day will provide an art-historical background for the Secret Art of Survival exhibition at the Victoria Gallery and Museum.

University of Liverpool Continuing Education lecturers Dr Judith Walsh and Julie Robson will explore the different forms of creative expression used to convey the experience of war in 20th Century art, not only by those actively involved in fighting, but also prisoners and civilians. The study day will consider the artworks in this exhibition within the history of realism, figuration and documentary in British art.

This one day course is suitable for anyone who wants to develop their understanding of art-historical context of the Secret Art of Survival exhibition.
