Secret Histories: Stories for a winter's night
Event Information
About this Event
A winter and Yule special from archaeologist and broadcaster Mary-Ann Ochota and Jason Buck Storyteller, looking into Britain's ancient past.
Sit back, help yourself to another cold sprout, crack open another drink and learn about the archaeological sites and artefacts of our ancestors, and their customs and traditions for this time of year.
- 'The Boar's Head' - the 15th century Christmas carol, the Yuletide traditions and the Norse legends
- Stonehenge at Winter Solstice
- Krampus ... and the other dark otherworldly folk that are the real judges of who's been naughty or nice
- Good King Wenceslas - who was he and why was he looking out?
Age suitability: Adults and families (child friendly)
"History really coming to life with hilarity and tragedy all in one show" - Jani, Southampton
"The mix of artefact, fact, and fun was perfectly woven through the mix of stories. Great pairing of two story tellers" - Janet, Portsmouth
Mary-Ann is probably best known for popping up on telly, presenting shows like Time Team and Mystic Britain. She specialises in archaeology, anthropology and adventure. Find out more her at www.maryannochota.com, or on twitter and insta @MaryAnnOchota
Award winning storyteller Jason Buck has been a performer most of his adult life, including gurning, comedy and sword swallowing, but his passion lies in stories. - there's nothing like getting lost in a story, the pictures in your head are better than film.
