The first version of a story is often the one that is remembered – even if it is wrong. Governments know this, so when disaster strikes or their blunders are in danger of being exposed, they rush out their version of the story. That is their history but behind that is a secret history – the reality that never quite sees the full light of day.
Author, journalist, TV producer, podcaster and educator Stephen Davis has been reporting and teaching about Secret History for three decades. He has studied misinformation and disinformation and developed a new university course to combat it. His investigations have exposed government cover-ups all over the world.
In this talk, Davis will explain the process of creating and spreading distorted versions of history.
Stephen Davis will focus on two of his major investigations: into British and American deception over the ill-fated journey of British Airways Flight149 into Kuwait (the subject of his book Operation Trojan Horse and the hit podcast The Secret History of Flight 149 ) and Russian and Swedish deception in the sinking of the ferry Estonia, the worst sea disaster in Europe since the Titanic (which he exposed in an award-winning Discovery channel documentary series).
