The award-winning podcast breaks down iconic songs in front of a live audience

About this event

Welcome to The Secret Life of Songs LIVE!

After the successful launch of our first podcast series, which culminated in being awarded bronze in the 'Best Arts & Culture Podcast' section at the British Podcast Awards 2021, we are very excited to be putting on three live shows in advance of the upcoming Series Two. Just as in the podcast, there will be in-depth musical analysis, biographical and historical context, and personal testimony, all weaved around live performance of some of the greatest songs from the golden age of pop:

Show 1 - 7pm, Wed 6th July - I Feel Love - Donna Summer

Show 2 - 7pm, Wed 13th July - 9 to 5 - Dolly Parton

Show 3 - 7pm, Wed 20th July - Running Up That Hill - Kate Bush

Host of the podcast, musician Anthony T Jackson, will be joined on-stage by two dizzyingly accomplished multi-instrumentalists, producer Mark Cake and singer-songwriter LOBA, in recreating and reinterpreting the music. Topics covered will include the queer history of electronic music, the idea of work in country music, and the influence of post-war British psychology in the work of Kate Bush.

We're delighted to be holding these events in partnership with LCCM who will be hosting the events at their state-of-the-art Music Box venue in Southwark: 241 Union Street, SE1 0LR

Tickets: £7 or £15 for all three. FREE for those with an LCCM pass or NUS card.

Covid Safety

To do our best to keep us all safe and happy, we have put in place the following guidelines:

  • We encourage you to wear a face covering indoors, particularly in high-traffic areas such as lifts or tight corridors
  • To enter our Music Box building, please be prepared to show a valid NHS COVID Pass (proof of full vaccination) or proof or a negative test taken within the last 24 hours
  • Please take sensible precautions at this time of very high prevalence. Do not attend if you are unwell, even if it’s just a mild cold (which seems to be the main Omicron symptoms), respect distances around others, and wear masks around the building.
