This comprehensive course, delivered through a single session, is designed to provide guidance on sitting the IStructE’s Professional Review Interview (PRI). The key aim is to enable the attendees to plan their preparation and approach the interview with confidence. The PRI is one of two essential elements in Institution Professional Review process to gain the Chartered structural engineer title and obtaining the MIStructE. Passing the interview will enable to successful candidate to obtain the CEng via the Engineering Council.

The interview tests that candidates have satisfied all the core objectives within your Initial Professional Development (IPD) to the set level of competency. This course will aim to give the candidate an overview of the interview format and guidance on the requirements set by the Institution. The workshop style course is facilitated by experienced interviewers who will discuss the portfolio format, the initial presentation and all of the core objectives. The attendees will have opportunity to ask questions to the panel of trainers.

Learning outcomes

By the end of the course, you should be able to:

  • Plan your own preparation for the interview
  • Understand how to create the portfolio to be submitted ahead of the interview
  • Recognise what is required to satisfy the required level of experience and ability for each objective
  • Employ communications skills to use during the interview

Speakers

Ing. Francesco Ferrari CEng MIStrcutE MICE AMSFE is a an associate structural engineer in Arup with over 20 years of experience in delivering challenging international projects. He has been a PRI interviewer for 12 years and is the current chair of the South Eastern Counties hub.


Toby Robison CEng FIStructE is a project director at Mott MacDonald with consulting engineers with over 20 years’ experience of designing a wide range of buildings in many sectors. He was personally involved in creating guidance by the IStructE for the PRI.


Dan Bomba PhD CEng MIStructE Euring FHEA is a professor and senior lecturer at the Surrey University. He is the current PRI coordinator for the South Eastern Counties hub.

The cost of the course will be £65 and numbers will be limited to 30 places.
