In this talk we’ll hear from Andy, a senior data scientist at the global life-sciences company Abcam about how he combines Biology and Data Science to develop tools that help Abcam do everything from optimising product lines to fighting fraud! You’ll get an expert insight into how Data Science is used to make important decisions within Abcam, helping to make a difference in the world, as well as what life as a data scientist entails.


Andy Johnson is a Senior Data Scientist at a Cambridge-based Life Sciences company called Abcam. Originally from Merseyside, he studied Computer Science at Newcastle University, but an industrial placement at Microsoft sparked his interest in Artificial Intelligence which led to him pursuing an MSc in it at the University of Edinburgh. In his free time he enjoys reading, video games and following Liverpool FC.

In addition to running an award-winning summer programme which transitioned to a virtual format in 2020 in response to Covid-19, they run events and workshops throughout the year to provide ongoing support to In2scienceUK students and alumni.
