In object theatre, it is in the material, more than anything, that one finds the meaning of the work. The task of the author, and then of the actor, is to expose this meaning. To say a lot without much, that's the essence of this art that has an illimited power of evocation.
With the show Cities, Olivier Ducas presents a collection of imaginary cities constructed with objects. Halfway between theatre and installation, the show draws up in a few strokes, sociological, economical, historical or intimate portaits of possible cities. Each one presents itself as an archetype and questions the concerns and obsessions of modern cities.
The workshop offers participants to follow the creative process used for this show to create their own city. Through a series of exercices they will learn to recognize the poetical capacity of objects. They will experiment with simple text material adapted to the object. Finally, they will learn to master the relationship between actor and object! With a language that merges text, image, sound and acting, each participant will build their own 'city'. A short stage performance that is, precise and rich like a finely theatrical piece.
As a result, the group will create it's own catalogue of cities, it's own private collection. It will offer visitors an impressive journey into a miniature but grandiose world.
