SEED PGR FunDay 2017 is an interactive, informal and fun social event aimed to tackle the loneliness that can be faced by PGRs along their doctoral journey. Working together with the School of Environment, Education and Development, we would like to achieve a few objectives that can change the environment for researchers:
1. To create a good sense of belonging
2. To gather all members of PGR in SEED through activities and refreshments
3. To foster relationship among PGR and admin staff in SEED
As it is generally known, the individualistic nature of research for PhD students can be a daunting journey for some. Most of them would be working on their own in the office if they are provided desks while some would work remotely or from home. This lack of interaction among SEED community would create a huge separation and loneliness for them. As a result, involvements of student representative within SEED are lacking causing difficulties in creating a sense of responsibilities.
Therefore, as PGR reps representing Planning & Environmental Management and Education in SEED, we would like to remove the barrier among students by creating this FunDay event for them to get to know others from different disciplines while building rapport with admin staff. This project is intended to be interactive, where participants will be involved in various games in groups to bring people of different disciplines together.
We are also committee members for SEED PGR Conference 2017 that will be held on 15th May, and for this reason, we would like to bring the members of SEED together before the Conference.
