About this event

Join us for the next event in our Seeds of Thought Lunchtime Talk series - with Dr Damiano Benvegnù

The Herbarium at St Andrews Botanic Garden holds an envelope containing an unmarked seaweed specimen, accompanied by a note that reads:

"Seaweed from the shore of Palestine / between Haifa and Tel Aviv / after a storm – September 1937."

This lunchtime talk from Dr Damiano Benvegnù explores the layered memories embedded in this specimen and reflects on the challenges of conducting environmental humanities research within the context of a botanical archive.

About Seeds of Thought

Join us for a series of lunchtime talks with researchers, thinkers, artists, creatives, and like-minded individuals.

We invite you to a menu of fascinating ideas over lunch. Together, we’ll consider how changes, at various scales of time and space, reflect the broader ecological crisis and explore ways to engage with these shifts, both practically and imaginatively.

Coffee, tea, and water will be available, with sandwiches for pre-order at the Visitor Centre. Free for St Andrews Botanic Garden Friends Members, £3 for visitors
