Visualise Training and Consultancy, in partnership with Newmedica Bristol, are delighted to bring our highly rated Seeing Beyond the Eyes Roadshow to Bristol. The course joins up the dots between the optical and sight loss sectors, ensuring patients receive the best experience. It also empowers eye care professionals with the knowledge and confidence to support low vision patients on the next step of their sight loss journey. The 2-hour session runs consecutively, and you will receive 6 interactive CET points on completion.

It is designed for all optical professionals including Optometrists, Dispensing Opticians, Ophthalmologists, Ophthalmic Nurses, Orthoptists and General Practitioners working in the eye care sector. Our overall CET score is 94% with 96% of people scoring our workshops at 100% on the General Optical Council website and we have received extensive coverage in the optical and sight loss media.

Hour 1

An Introduction to Visual Impairment (Seeing Beyond the Eyes part 1)

Description

Discusses the principle causes of sight loss in children, adults and older people and the associated functional symptoms in initial and advanced stages, accessibility challenges people with a visual impairment experience when visiting eye care practices and considers what reasonable adjustments should be made.

Educates opticians as to what support and services are available for patients with low vision and how to refer them. A unique perspective is provided by a presenter who is a qualified Sight Loss Rehabilitation Assistant, Eye Clinic Liaison Officer (ECLO) and himself visually impaired.

Hour 2

Saving Sight, Supporting Sight Loss (Seeing Beyond the Eyes part 2)

Description

Discusses four low vision scenarios of preventable sight loss:

  • A registered sight impaired Age-Related Macular Degeneration (AMD) patient with low vision needs and her concerned sisters who require advice
  • A veteran glaucoma patient who has difficulty administering eye drops; relating poor compliance to preventable sight loss
  • A patient presenting with classic symptoms of retinal detachment and why this is the number one cause of clinical fitness to practice cases and insurance claims
  • A congenital aphakic patient as an infant and young adult, and how failure to dispense properly can itself cause a patient to unnecessarily have low vision
