Event description

Description

This workshop aims to give EXPERIENCED Organisation Development Practitioners and change agents working in the NHS the opportunity to explore how they utilise themselves as an ‘instrument for change and improvement’

Reinkruat (2008:15) suggests that when we work fully with our clients we bring to our work our “experience, identity, relational skills, moral awareness, knowledge and wisdom”. Our work as OD practitioners is much more than the toolkit we carry it is the use of our self.

As OD practitioners, we move through many stages in our careers as we learn to work at different levels and in different places within and between our organisations, systems and communities. According to Reinkruat et al (2009:8) as practitioners develop their capacity to work with ‘self as instrument’ each practitioner must develop their focus upon “self-awareness, reflection and understanding of themselves within their social-cultural context”

Within this workshop we will create the space and time for such review and reflection with the specific aim of supporting us to be potent practitioners. This is a rare space in this busy world. We envisage it to be a valuable opportunity in your busy world.

Format of the workshop

We will be working at different levels during our time together. We will ask you to undertake a small amount of pre-workshop reflection and thinking. During the workshop you will work alone , in small groups and work with the large group.

Learning Outcomes

Participants will:

  • Explore the idea of ‘self as instrument’ and its relationship to the practice of Organisation Development.
  • Explore key questions around the process of personal development which supports our use of ourselves as an ‘instrument’ in the helping process.
  • Use a number of different tools and models to consider how we can focus upon strengthening our instrumentality.
  • Develop their own personal development plan which focuses upon the action they may take within the next 12 months as part of their CPD activities to become a more potent practitioner.

The day has been designed and will be facilitated by Dr Maxine Craig, herself an OD practitioner with over 35 years of health and care experience. Maxine’s details can be found here should you want to view them: http://linkedin.com/in/maxinecraig
