Event description

Description

We talk to ourselves like we would never talk to anyone else we love.

We strongly believe that being critical is crucial if we are to be brave and stay on course.

We are wrong and the research overwhelmingly shows that criticism is not a path to courage.

I dared to learn, and practice self-compassion and it has changed everything. I was sceptical and my clients often object to it at first, but the results speak for themselves.

Come and explore how self-compassion can make you braver.

I do not know a single person who enjoys being criticised. I am talking about criticism that is harsh, speaks to our being and tells us that how we are is not enough.

Yet, we do it to ourselves, constantly and sometimes with pride. I certainly did. However, as Maya Angelou said: “when you know better, you do better”.

In this session you will learn:

  • why we default to criticism and what other (more helpful) evolutionary system we can tap into instead
  • what is self compassion
  • how to learn and practice it (specific steps)
  • barriers to self-compassion: 2 main objectives and evidence against it
  • lots of research underpinning various aspects of self-compassion
  • everything you learn, you’ll be able to use in conversation with your clients
  • resources and ways to deepen your practice

Choosing to be kind to ourselves is not easy nor fluffy and soft. It is hard work and extremely brave. Kristin Neff sums it up beautifully:

It takes courage to turn towards what scares us, what we do not like about ourselves and be with it, instead of running away, ignoring it and getting angry.

If I could use one word to sum up my life and work, it would be courage.

If I had two, I would add purpose.

Sanela

I specialise in helping people create purposeful lives though courage and compassion. I strongly believe that we all have a unique contribution to make in life, that we must be brave to dream up and chart our own path to success.

I am accredited Life and Career Coach with 14 years of experience working in the UK corporate world, top business schools and in my private practice. In 2016, I received accreditation to carry out the work of Brené Brown; how to show up, be seen and live brave™. It has changed my life and I now use it to help others change theirs too.
