How can we safeguard our collections and historic buildings whilst making the most of commercial opportunies? What are the ethical and professional standards we should be aware of? How do we balance demands for use of collections with our own well-being? How do we all benefit from financial successful?

Join us for a lively day of presentations, discussion, case-studies and practical activities focussing on the different ways in which museums and heritage sites can get the most out of their collections and buildings, whilst maintaining high standards of care. From weddings to beer festivals - this is an essential event for anyone working with collections who is thinking of opening up their sites to more income-generating activities. Delegates will get the chance to hear about best practice when working with film and TV crews, discover the practical implications of hosting different events, and get top tips and advice for planning ahead - from crime prevention to policies and procedures.

  • Sally Johnson, Collections Conservator, English Heritage – Working to professional standards
  • Pam Halls, Curator, Cambridge Museum of Technology – Developing commercial activities
  • Hannah Henderson, Curator, Norfolk Museums Service - Developing an Escape Room at Museum of Norwich
  • Harvey Edgington and Victoria Marsland, Filming and Locations, National Trust – film productions and working with media
  • Simon Revill, Accredited Conservation Architect, Rodney Melville and Partners - adapting historic and listed buildings for commercial activities

By booking a place on to SHARE Museums East Training Programme, you are agreeing to the following terms and conditions:

  • That you are from an East of England museum which is in Arts Council England’s Museum Accreditation Scheme. Where this is not applicable you acknowledge that SHARE will facilitate your attendance if availability permits and that your organisation will pay any fees which may apply.
  • It is a condition of receiving this ACE funded training that the online evaluation sent to the email address provided at the point of booking is completed by the specified deadline. This deadline is in the email notification unless a paper evaluation is specifically requested and submitted on the day of the training session.
  • By booking a place you agree that you are booking as a representative of your organisation and should you cancel your booking without sufficient notice your organisation is responsible for paying the late cancellation fee of £50.
