About this event
The annual SEM Fed AGM will this year be part of a day visiting museums in Cambridge. We will be spending time at both the Whipple Museum of the History of Science, and the Museum of Zoology.
The day will include a range of talks from museum staff covering community programmes, working with volunteers, and digital engagement. A wonderful opportunity to get back to visiting museums, networking and learning from each other.
Suitable covid secure measures will be in place throughout the day as per the guidance at the time of the event, and details will be sent to booked attendees shortly before the event. Please bring a face covering unless you are exempt and wear when indicated.
The itinerary will include:
10-10.30: Arrival and coffee, at the Whipple Museum
10.30-11.30: Sem Fed AGM
11.30 - 12: A session on virtual volunteering at the Whipple and their database project
12 - 12.30: Talk about Sawston Village College project reaching underrepresented audiences
12.30-1:00: Tour of the Whipple Museum
1-2: Networking lunch (included)
2-3.30: Zoology Museum afternoon sessions including representing research through digital engagement, Matt Hayes discussing the Esmee Fairbairn project Current Wildlife, and discussing conservation with historic objects.
3:30: Close

The South and East Museums Federation started life in the 1930s and is one of nine Federations established in Britain to promote museums and museum workers at a regional level. It is an independent membership organisation which aims to promote, support and develop our members on a local and national level.
Membership of the SEMF is open to everyone working in museums and galleries in the South and East region. This includes the counties of Bedfordshire, Berkshire, Buckinghamshire, Cambridgeshire, Essex, Norfolk, Hertfordshire, Suffolk and Oxfordshire and the unitary authority areas of Luton, Milton Keynes and Peterborough.
Our members include professionals working in large and small museum, volunteers, students and freelance consultants. The Federation is governed by a committee but is membership led.
Members benefit from networking opportunities, behind the scenes visits and an annual study trip. Everyone is welcome, why not join us.
