Title: Big Mother - how AI and algorithms are reshaping power and control in the digital era
----------------------
Abstract:
Machine learning and predictive analytics pave the way to a new era of control and optimization. Policing, politics, insurance, health, culture, social relations: all areas are affected. However, by allowing tech companies and states to access, understand and even anticipate behaviors and potential behaviors, machine learning techniques also open the door to a "control society" focused on risk aversion and influence, reshaping the very nature of power and how it is exercised, a new approach well portrayed by the Social Credit Score currently tested in China. Rather than Big Brother, would Big Mother, a soft and immanent power, be the right core concept to apprehend the digital age to come?
