Event description

Description

Many councils want to support communities to be more active, provide local services and solve more problems themselves. With growing pressures on public services and increased tensions in communities, there needs to be a wholesale shift from communities as passive consumers of services to a more meaningful level of engagement in their design and delivery.

This ground-breaking seminar is based on LGIU’s new exciting publication, ’Building Strong Communities’ being launched the same day. It can help both officers and Elected Members to build better organised, more resilient communities, working in partnership with the local authority. This workshop-style session is packed with examples from around the country, plus practical frameworks and tools to apply to your own setting.

The seminar includes:

  • Seven key features of a ‘strong community’
  • Community leadership roles for Elected Members
  • Building community capacity through engagement
  • Using social media for engaging communities
  • Strategic approaches to strengthening communities.

Seminar participants are invited to stay for drinks to attend the LGIU publication launch ‘Building Strong Communities’ being held at the same venue from 4.30 pm to 6.oo pm.

Feedback on ‘Building Strong Communities’ for community engagement:

“It’s Brilliant!” Alan Twelvetrees, Swansea, author and former lecturer in community development
