IRC and pS-Eau with the political support of ECOWAS, in partnership with USAID, GIZ, Agence de l’Eau Seine Normandie, Agence de l’Eau Adour Garonne, Agence de l’Eau Artois Picardie, Agence de l’Eau Rhin Meuse, Agence de l’Eau Rhône Méditerranée Corse are pleased to announce the organisation of an bilingual seminar on WASH monitoring.

Monitoring and evaluation is crucial in ensuring sustainability of water and sanitation services and a necessity for a variety of local stakeholders with diverse interests and objectives. This seminar will offer a bilingual platform (French/English) for exchanging experiences and knowledge from the field on various themes linked to monitoring and evaluation.

From Monday 7 April to Wednesday 9 April 2014 a seminar on monitoring of WASH services in West Africa will be held in Ouagaoudou, Burkina Faso. This seminar has evolved out of the IRC symposium on Monitoring Sustainable WASH Service Delivery in Addis Ababa in April 2013 convening some 400 WASH professionals from around the world. In order to bring stakeholders from West Africa up to speed with the latest thinking on WASH monitoring, and provide a venue for emphasising experiences in the field of monitoring WASH services at the municipal level.

Strategic themes for the seminar

Monitoring and evaluation is a broad topic that covers many aspects. Four themes have been selected to structure discussions during the seminar:

1. Monitoring and evaluation to support local governments’ water, sanitation strategic planning

2. Monitoring and evaluation to improve water, sanitation and hygiene services

3. Monitoring and evaluation to manage water and sanitation services

4. Monitoring and evaluation to regulate water and sanitation services

Cost of the seminar

The seminar is free of charge. The participants (or their partners) have to cover all costs related to: travel, transport, accommodation, visa, airport pick-ups, dinners and all other costs which are related to the seminar. Sponsorship is not available.
