Who should attend?
This is aimed at stakeholders from private, public, and voluntary sectors who are interested in the implementation of marine renewable energy technologies.Attendance is free but registration is mandatory.
Alongside the seminar, a public exhibition will be held at the same venue, from Thursday November 12 - Friday November 13.
What is the seminar about?
Renewable energy sources such as wave, tide and offshore wind provide clean, green and locally available energy to coastal and island areas.
Whilst these energy sources are popular (at least in terms of results from opinion polls), few instances of real-world projects exist even if some offshore wind farms are beginning to emerge around the UK coast. For wave and tidal energy, the technologies to harness them are still in development and they are relatively expensive. They therefore present a challenge for public engagement - how best to make familiar and meaningful what are as yet largely unknown and unfamiliar technologies.
Seminar attendees are invited to discuss the findings from a research project funded by ESRC and the Guernsey Government which has developed new methods of public engagement, rendering unfamiliar technologies – and their local impacts - more familiar to publics through the use of photography and mapping.
The programme will include presentations from Professor Patrick Devine-Wright and Mr Bouke Wiersma (University of Exeter), followed by a round table discussion with invited representatives from public, private, and voluntary sectors.
The seminar will be followed by a networking lunch from 13.00.
