About the speaker

Dr Mthoko Ngobese Sampson is a South African social work academic – a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy. Her main experience is in Family Group Conferencing (FGC) and social work with children and families. Her PhD research looked at the FGC model as an embodiment of Ubuntu and cultural competence in working with families to keep children safe from maltreatment. Dr Ngobese Sampson has presented in many conferences in the UK and USA on FGC and Ubuntu. She works to facilitate a slow process of decolonising social work education and ensuring the voice of the child in social work interventions.
