Overview: Strengthening, Showcasing and Sustaining Impact of SEND Schools within Children’s Universities

At a time when SEND schools face growing pressures, from stretched resources and limited public funding, to rising needs among children and families, we know that Children’s Universities within SEND settings have a vital role to play in creating inclusive opportunities for learning beyond the classroom.

With increasing recognition of the importance of inclusive education and a stronger national focus on wellbeing, skills development, and life chances for children with SEND, now feels like the right moment to come together as a network and reflect on how we can strengthen and sustain this impact.

During the session we will:

  • Explore how adapted enrichment and extracurricular activities can meet the needs of children with a wide range of abilities and align with national priorities for inclusion.
  • Share examples of effective practice in SEND schools, including inclusive graduations and innovative partnerships with schools, universities, local businesses, and community groups.
  • Discuss how we can make the case for SEND-focused Children’s University activity more clearly and collectively and and how the Trust can support this through national messaging, partnerships, and sector engagement.

All SEND schools who are part of the Children’s University network are warmly invited to join and contribute to this important conversation.
