SeNS Final Conference “Stronger Senior Networks – Active Ageing and Social Capital”

INTERREG IVB NWE project SeNS – Seniors Network Support

The SeNS partnership is proud to invite you to its final conference during the European Open Days in Brussels. During the past three years the seven partners have been creating and strengthening networks of senior citizens. Following the transnational process model developed by the VUB (Vrije Universiteit Brussel) 24 local actions were realised. SeNS partners support more than 50 senior related networks involving governmental actors and/or non-public sector organisations on local and regional level. So far, partners have had direct contact with more than 86.500 people over 60.

Amongst the objectives of SeNS lies the promotion of a positive image of age focusing on elderly people’s active engagement and societal involvement. With NWE’s Cities facing the challenge of an ageing population, the project aims at offering opportunities to this age group by developing and empowering them to take part in a comprehensive range of activities in a wide range of areas, thus building on social capital and enhancing the lives of senior citizens.

The focus of the conference consists of highlighting the importance of social networks, co-creation and the potential of the social capital of seniors. After presenting major project results, SeNS is proud to give the floor to key note speaker Anne-Sophie Parent, Secretary General of AGE Platform who will discuss the aforementioned topics and pertinent related issues and present the AFE-INNOVNET EU-funded project. Finally a panel (Marzena Breza - Ministry of Labour and Social Policy Poland, Joan Beresford - SeNS partnership, Anne-Sophie Parent - AGE  Platform, Professor Dominique Verté - VUB, Fritz von Nordheim - DG Employment, Social Affairs and Inclusion, European Commission) will discuss the value and need of social networks, the importance of co-creation, the potential of social capital and the (future) role of local, regional, national and European stakeholders.
