Sensory Learning in Art Spaces: How to use the senses in learning spaces to inspire creativity
Join us for a day of thinking, dreaming, making and engaging with the senses and discover how sensory learning can support students in developing fine motor skills, promote relaxation, encourage social interaction and inspires visual art work that embraces experimentation and imagination; this session is aimed at: Primary and Secondary School Art Teachers and Technicians and Youth/Community Leaders.
In the morning we will meet Jean Tormey, Curator for Early Years and Families at Tate Britain and visit the Play Studio commission with artist Rosemary Jane Cronin, before heading to the Ithell Colquhoun and Edward Burra exhibitions. Jean will then share how she has embedded the Sensory Play Tool Kit into the spaces she has curated at Tate, in collaboration with contemporary artists and designers. Lunch will then be provided by UAL.
After lunch we will have a full afternoon of practical making activities working with painting, sculpture and printmaking, before learning how we can use the elements with technology to create new work. These activities have been inspired by Rosemary's making process in the Play Studio: Dream Worlds, as well as processes made by Ithell Colquhoun. We will then share session plans and online resources that can be taken back to your classrooms, before hearing about the CCW Autumn/Winter Plan for Insights.
