10th edition of the international student competition in bio-sensing!
This year SensUs will celebrate its 10th edition. Following up on our last year’s edition, SensUs 2025 challenges ambitious students from all over the globe to form a student Team and start developing an innovative biosensing system for continuously monitoring kidney failure. The topic remained the same due to the enormous potential that was identified for implementing these biosensors.
About the theme:
According to the National Kidney Foundation (n.d.) around 10% of the population globally is affected by kidney disease and over 815,000 people in the US alone are living with kidney failure (American Kidney Fund, n.d.). Kidney failure is characterized by one or both kidneys losing their renal function, namely, the ability to filter waste matter from the blood. This results in an accumulation of waste in the bloodstream, which alters the homeostasis of the blood. To evaluate the state of the renal function, participating teams are challenged to continuously measure creatinine levels as it serves as an indicator of kidney function. There is no cure for chronic kidney disease, although maintaining a proper diet and medications can slow the progression of the disease. A person with kidney failure needs to undergo dialysis treatment or kidney transplantation.
About the teams:
The 2025 SensUs edition will gather 19 student teams from all over the world, such as USA, China, Canada, Türkiye, Switzerland, Germany, France etc. The teams consist of students of varying ages, education, and experience. They think differently about world problems and how they can be solved. Every Team is linked with research groups, each with their own expertise’s. By giving the Teams the freedom to choose and develop their own measuring techniques, the SensUs Competition results in a large range of new innovative technologies that are implemented in prototypes.
Join us for a day filled with inspiring and jaw-dropping activities:
- Listen to students presenting their prototype biosensor
- Witness the glorious moments of award ceremony
- Have a chance to meet the hard-working individuals behind this innovations while grabbing a delicious lunch
Let us all wish a good luck to the participating teams in creating, designing and developing bio-sensors for health.
Let’s compete for quality of life!
