Is this course suitable for beginners?

Yes, it is suitable for beginners. You'll get the most out of it if you feel ready to work on a piece of writing and share it with a gentle, encouraging, supportive group.

Question 2

What is the venue like?

The course takes place in Studio 3. It's an airy room with large windows laid out with tables and chairs. The venue is wheelchair accessible. And there is a cafe available. You can bring drinks into the workshop room and we'll take a break halfway through. You can get up and walk around at any time.

Question 3

What happens in this creative writing course?

Accepted Answer

I will share prompts (questions or sentence starters) that get your ideas flowing. We write together and then we share the writing if you want to - you can read out a little of what you've written or say something about the process or say nothing at all. It's up to you.

Question 4

Is there homework?

Accepted Answer

At the end of Session 1, I will offer suggestions as to how you can turn what you've written in the workshop into a piece of writing - this could be a memory, scene, story or poem. You will work on this at home, then bring what you've written to Session 2 for encouraging feedback.

Is there parking?

Accepted Answer

There is plenty of parking available across the road from Chequer Mead Theatre. There are pay and display machines - you can use cash or a credit card.

Question 6

What should I bring?

Something to write on - no fancy journals needed, but if you'd like to use one then this could be the perfect moment. Otherwise a few sheets of paper or old exercise book will be fine! 
Something to write with - pen, pencil - anything. A photo of a moment you'd like to write about.

Question 7

How many people are in the group?

My groups are usually small with around 6-8 people.

Question 8

If I can't come, can I have a refund?

Accepted Answer

I decide on whether to give a refund or not depending on the circumstances. If you give me more than three days' notice, this is usually fine. If you've booked for a series in advance and miss one, then I have the lessons online you can catch up with.

Question 9

If the workshop is cancelled, can I have a refund?

Accepted Answer

Yes, if I cancel the workshop for any reason and you have paid in advance, I will offer you a refund or a booking on a future date.
