Event description

Description

Many members of the Sepsid flies are small and ant-like owing to their glossy black and ‘waisted’ appearance. Most are associated with dung but also other decaying organic matter. In Britain, Sepsidae are a small family, represented by only 29 species and 69% of those (20 species) have been recorded in the Lancashire and Cheshire region.

This one day workshop, tutored by Sepsidae National Recording Scheme Organiser Steve Crellin, will introduce you to the identification of UK species with practical sessions using set specimens, microscopes and keys. You are encouraged to bring your own specimens for identification / checking.

This workshop is aimed at those whom already have a keen interest in Diptera with experience using dichotomous keys.

Lunch not provided.
